In sub 100kWe biogas power generators and heat recovery systems, Libertine technology can help deliver around 40-50% biogas-to-power conversion efficiency, offering scale generator economics at smaller biogas sites. Libertine’s free piston expander can optimise its compression/expansion ratios and valve timing according to the feed biogas methane composition.

Libertine technology will provide lightweight, mobile power for consumer, industrial and other applications

Libertine technology can be incorporated into a simple, reliable and portable power generator that can be scaled from 10kWe down to a 1kWe device around the size of a shoebox. A 2kWe Libertine generator unit could fit into a backpack, weigh less than 15Kg and run at full load for four hours a day for a week on just 10Kg of diesel fuel. This format could be considerably quieter than conventional generator technology due to the engine’s over-expanded exhaust stroke.

Libertine technology will reduce the cost of low emission vehicles in developed and emerging markets

A Libertine free piston power module could produce electrical power for range extended electric vehicles and low cost hybrids. Its combustion cycle and unique scavenging geometry make this an exceptionally clean engine with very low levels of tailpipe emissions. In its flex-fuel variant, the compression ratio is continuously optimised for hydrous ethanol, gasoline or anything in between, converting ethanol’s higher octane rating into increased power and efficiency.
